Fabric Love

Every once in a while I like to share with you all some of my favorite fabric designers.

Once I received my sewing machine from my mother in law and began sewing, it was as if a brand new world was introduced to me.  I am amazed at how many creative fabric designers there are out there.
Their talent is inspiring.  We have a blast ordering new fabric and anticipating what a new fabric will look like on one of our totes or tea towels.

Fig Tree and Company is one of our favorite fabric lines.  She has amazing talent in the way that her colors are paired together.  We just love the vintage feel.

Here is a sampling of her Buttercup design

Her new summer fabric is Strawberry Fields: isn't is beautiful!!

I can't wait to see some of the beautiful creations made with this fabric!!

Just can't help myself

Two of the blogs that I follow are Simplify and Cotton Way and I must admit, I am completely addicted to these blogs right now.  This is a mother daughter team, Bonnie {the mom} and Camille {the daughter}, who design quilt patterns and fabric.  These ladies are so talented.  The colors they use are so beautiful when paired together.  Their blogs are fantastic too.

They will soon be having a new fabric collection released that is absolutely beautiful!  But, I am still crushing on one of their first ones, it is Bliss {truly, that is the name of the fabric collection}.

Reds, aquas, pinks, and greens all majestically put together to create beautiful fabric.

Soon I will be updating Alissa's room from a nursery to a little girls room, I fully intend to use this fabric to make her a quilt.  Hopefully it will turn out something like this:

Check out their blogs.  You are sure to be inspired!

We've been shopping!

What could be more fun that going shopping?

Shopping {together} so that we can create lots of wonderful things for our shop!

Here is a sneak peek at some of the new elements we will be using.

Can anything be more pretty than pom pom fringe?

Just wait till you see some of the new things we will be doing with fabric!

So much fun!  We can't wait for it all to arrive so that we can get started.

Getting to Know You

It just occured to me this evening, as I was sewing, that everytime I sew my mind sings the same song.  This song was sung by Bing Crosby {be still my beating heart} and goes like this:
"Getting to know you, Getting to know all about you,
Getting to like you, Getting to hope you like me"
So why, you ask, do I think of this song every time I sew?
Well, I am serenading my sewing machine.

My machine was given to me in early July by my mother-in-law.  We made a trip to Illinois to pick it up and during our visit I was supposed to get some lessons.  Well, to make a long story short, my mother-in-law had to make an emergency trip to the doctor while we were there so the tutoring never happened.  We packed up the sewing maching and brought it home.  I ordered a manual online and have since tried to teach myself how to use it.

This machine is a monster.  It has a huge motor, is extremely fast {would probably qualify in a NASCAR race}, and has a lot of quirky habits.  It is an industrial machine that, I am sure, would prefer to be used by a true seamstress, or at least someone who knew what she was doing.
Each time I sit down to sew I feel like I am meeting the machine for the first time, and {hoping} that when it meets me, it likes me.
Well, we are getting to know each other.  It is a slow and {sometimes} painful process.  But as many of you have experienced yourselves, I am beginning to love my sewing machine.  I would love any pointers though!  If you have a Bernina Industrial 950 and have some hints/tips for me, feel free to pass them this way!
